Haryana: Four-Year-Old Boy Falls 220 Feet into Open Borewell in Ambala, Massive Rescue Operation Underway
A four-year-old boy, Nirvair Singh, fell nearly 220 feet into an open borewell in Dhanaura village of Haryana's Ambala while accompanying his father to the fields. The National Disaster Response Force, State Disaster Response Force, Army, and district administration are conducting an intensive rescue operation as action is initiated against the borewell owner for alleged negligence.
The child, identified as Nirvair Singh, had accompanied his father to agricultural fields in Dhanaura village at around 7 a.m. to deliver food to his grandfather. While his father was occupied with work nearby, Nirvair was playing in the field when he accidentally slipped into the uncovered borewell.
The family immediately informed the village head and the police, following which the district administration launched an emergency response. Deputy Commissioner Ajay Tomar, along with other administrative officials, reached the site to supervise the rescue operation.
According to officials, the child is believed to have fallen to a depth of approximately 220 feet inside the borewell. Considering the complexity of the operation, the National Disaster Response Force, the State Disaster Response Force, and the Army were called in with specialised rescue equipment to assist in extracting the child safely.
A large number of villagers gathered near the incident site as rescue teams continued their efforts. To ensure the operation proceeds without obstruction, authorities cordoned off the surrounding area and restricted public access.
Deputy Commissioner Ajay Tomar said the child, estimated to be between three and four years old, had accompanied his father, who was delivering food in the fields, when the incident occurred. He confirmed that measurements indicate the child is trapped at a depth of about 220 feet. He added that Army and National Disaster Response Force teams have reached the site with advanced equipment and that every possible effort is being made to rescue the child safely. The Deputy Commissioner also stated that action is being initiated against the owner of the borewell for negligence in leaving it uncovered.
The incident has once again highlighted the grave danger posed by uncovered borewells and the urgent need for strict compliance with safety measures. Rescue teams remain engaged in the challenging operation as officials continue efforts to bring the child out safely.
